These are a few of my favorite things
Blessings for 2026!
Mere moments from being halfway through the decade (!), in the second quarter of the century, and staring down the barrel of 40 years of life, it is a good time to recap the year that was.
Favourite films: Sinners, Bugonia, The Life of Chuck
It is always good to have high expectations get surpassed. I love Ryan Coogler’s work and was excited to see him and Michael B. Jordan collaborate again. This movie was spectacular, had transcendent moments, and I hope it wins a whole heap of awards in the next few months.
Favourite albums: Exile by Chronixx, Let God Sort Em Out by Clipse , DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS by Bad Bunny
I had the best time listening to music this year. And I listened to a ton of it! Apple Music told me I listened to over 35,000 minutes of music and over 190 albums. That doesn’t count my favorite DJ mixes, sound clashes, radio shows, and music I would hear just moving through the world. 2025 has been a fantastic year for music but one of the most special projects for me is Chronixx’s album, Exile.
Chronixx is an incredible artist whose music was dearly missed during his absence. He dropped a new album this year that seems divinely timed as its joyful undeterred message has become the soundtrack for Jamaica’s rebuild after Hurricane Melissa.
Favourite songs: “Nuevayol” by Bad Bunny, “Glory” by JID, “MTBTTF” by Clipse
I ran this track into the ground. This song is everything to me. I’m a sucker for a great New York anthem and this track wakes up the African and Taino blood in all of us who are blessed to have Caribbean ancestry. Can’t get enough of this song.
Favourite books: Zeal by Morgan Jerkins, How to Say Babylon by Safiya Sinclair, The Message by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Zeal is remarkable! One of my favorite books I have ever read. Highly recommend it!
I am so glad you are here! I aim to maintain this space as a home for abolitionist theology that engages with culture.
Thank you for rocking with the sermons I post and my interviews with guests like Clint Smith, Ashley Williams, Patrick Reyes, Kaitlin Curtice, Mayor Danny Avula, Jamilah Lemieux, Congressman Gabe Amo, Christine Ahn and Yolanda Solomon.
I hope you have enjoyed Songs That Can Do No Wrong, Theology of Hip-Hop recaps, Morning Meds, Black and Borderless, Invisible Strength, as well as the essays (which I hope to write more regularly in 2026). All of this is prayerfully crafted and delivered through the lens of love and radical hospitality.
My prayer for 2026 is that this is a space where we can continue to learn how to be good neighbors and be surprised with joy by the love we are developing for others.
Blessings on the new year!
