The Tree
A new poem for your headtop
Wrote this poem when I let my imagination run wild. Thinking about our connection to nature and all the things that try to disrupt that essential relationship.
Family celebrates the life of an elder Cremated and ashes planted within the seed of a mighty oak Tree provides shade for family gatherings Tree is base for young man to play Tree is where the young man kisses a girl One stormy night Evil arrives in a group Adorned with hoods They park their pickup near the tree The tree hears a familiar voice The young man from the family he loves The evil puts a rope on him The evil puts a rope on the tree The evil drives off hootin and hollering The rope hurts the tree’s branch The rope is killing the tree’s friend The tree prays in ancient tongue Lightning hits the tree The young man rests on the tree’s trunk I’ve got you The tree says And you’ve got me
