Doris

Welcome to The Doula's Garden!

A podcast about our stories and how they relate to reproductive health, reproductive justice and bodily autonomy.

How are our reproductive justice health decisions affected by what we learn from our families, friends, community and our care providers? Why do we choose to make certain decisions and what makes us choose to go against the grain or stick up for ourselves? How are our experiences affected by the decisions we make and what consequences does this have on public health?

Today we hear from Doris, my Nana, an 84 year old woman who grew up during Jim Crow era America. She gave birth to her first baby in 1959, when the midwifery care model was becoming less popular and hospital births increased.

I hope you enjoy these stories, learn something new, and think about your own health care decision making!
